"Leadership Tactics for Challenging Times" is the name of an important forum being held Oct. 28 for Valley businesses trying to navigate through the economic downturn.

The forum is an initiative of the Leadership and Management Development Council of B.C. (LMDC) and the B.C. Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Community Futures Cowichan and the Duncan-Cowichan Chamber of Commerce.

Sponsored by the B.C. Ministry of Small Business, Technology and Economic Development, it is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Duncan Meadows Golf Course.

There are signs that the economy may be starting to turn around, but for many, things are still sluggish and organizers have determined this is a great time for Valley business people to hone their skills and get ready to take advantage of new opportunities around the corner.

Kari Yuers, President and CEO of Kryton International Inc. and Chair of the Leadership and Management Development Council of B.C. will be the keynote speaker.

She is an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year winner and will be joined at the podium by Bob Meggy, President and CEO of The Great Little Box Company and Joyce Groote, CEO of Holeys.

The trio provide business owners and managers with practical advice and information and participants in the day-long workshop will also hear tips from other successful business owners.

Concepts include: marketing on a tight budget; recruiting, training and retaining employees; getting the most out of your team; and building a strong support network.

"The Chamber and Community Futures are very excited to be able to bring an international calibre event to Cowichan," says Cathy Mailhot, Manager of the Duncan-Cowichan Chamber of Commerce.

"In the past any local business wishing to participate in such a high quality event would have to travel out of the area."

A cost of $50 per person for the forum includes lunch.

For tickets or more information contact: Duncan-Cowichan Chamber of Commerce at 250-748-1111 or Community Futures Cowichan at 250-746-1004 or email them at chamber@duncancc.bc.ca or info@cfcowichan.ca
